One thing that has changed: in August 2014 Harpoon became an employee owned company! We still love brewing beer and enjoying it with friends. It was hard to imagine that craft brewing would become what it has today. Though many things have changed since the early days of Harpoon, much has stayed the same. Fresh, local craft beer began making its way out to Boston beer drinkers. In June of 1987, a warehouse space on the Boston waterfront was transformed into a brewery and the first Harpoon Ale was brewed. They decided to build a brewery so that they could brew the beers that they wanted to drink, and invite their friends to the brewery to drink it with them. Traveling through Europe and experiencing the rich traditions of European brewing and beer drinking enhanced their love of beer and opened their eyes to the rich beer culture they wanted back home. They were three friends who loved beer and loved drinking beer together but found the beer choices at the time to be limited. Even American breweries are making better wits, such as Victory's Whirlwind, or Avery's White Rascal, or New Belgium's amazing (and sadly discontinued) Fat Tire Belgian White.Harpoon was started in 1986 by Dan Kenary, Rich Doyle, and George Ligeti.

Brewed with orange peel and a unique blend of spices, UFO White is the. A lot of people say UFO is a better Blue Moon, and it very well may be, but UFO doesn't hold a candle to witbiers from La Trappe or Unibroue or St. Description: Light, crisp, refreshing UFO White follows in the tradition of spiced wheat beers that have been brewed in Belgium for well over 300 years. If someone hands me one, I'll gladly drink it, but I won't be buying it again as there are a lot of better options. Mouthfeel is fine, if lacking the effervescence I expect from Belgian witbiers. Taking a sip of UFO, and the flavours just line up and announce themselves like roll call - wheat, here orange, here coriander, here. Taking a sip of Unibroue, the flavours mingle and dance across your toungue. I had it at the same time as I had Unibroue's Witbier, and the Unibroue had a delicacy and complexity to the flavours that UFO didn't. It's simple, straightforward, and a little boring. The aroma is primarily orange, but rather than orange peel it comes across more like an orange creamsicle.Ī sip brings forth wheat malt, orange notes, and a hint of coriander. Pours a hazy orange with only the barest traces of head that disappear instantly. the most recent Wits I've reviewed were Shock Top and Blue Moon, and this does overall marginally best them, but it's not unique and still very much American in its execution (1512) Sep 23, 2019 O: merely a tick purchase, also not sure if I've ever had this somehow. back end dryness does thin out the body a bit body never expresses much roundness malt base unsurprisingly eventually pushes forward and ahead, but the back end does have a subtle taper to it, herbal bitterness helping to enhance the marginal dryness ever so slightlyį: typical lazy river flow, sluggish carbonation, lightly weighty underbelly. T: coriander burst, pithy but fresh orange chaser coriander powder and a soft crackery grain lingering in aftertaste. aromas at high volume, though muddled, static S: tons of coriander front and center perfumy, lotion-like background scent, vaguely vinyl (pool liner) orange zest slowly creeps in, but it is also rather potent.

foam crackles on pour, slows into thin spongy cap that all but disappears, barely a collar remains. L: pale, golden-amber liquid swirled bottle, but only got a bit of haze, little murk/swirled sediment. (12 oz bottle, PKG 07/08/19 purchased single off shelf.
